Behind The Mask: Dealing with Mask Acne

The New Normal

Masks. We love to hate them. Whether we like it or not, masks have become a part of our daily lives. Unfortunately, that also means acne has become a part of our lives too. Even people who have never experienced acne prior to now are being affected. It's a tough situation, but we're here to help! Use our tips and tricks to keep your skin problems at bay.
This has been the biggest complaint we've heard since the masks have been mandated. Acne caused from the mask, or as we like to call it 'Mask-ne', can be a difficult beast to tame. With dirt accumulation, makeup residue, sweat, and condensation, the mask is a bacterial playground. One thing we recommend is to wash reusable masks regularly. Bacteria builds up in the reusable masks, so remembering to wash them can be crucial for your skin. If you are using disposable masks, use a new one as often as you seem fit. This could be everyday. every week, or anywhere in between, depending on how often you wear it.

Another tip for keeping your face clear is to maintain your skincare regimen. Remembering to wash your face regularly and using specialty products, like spot treatments and acne prevention treatments, as needed are great ways to protect your skin from breakouts. We encourage you do to your own research, as well as consult us, on products that will work best for you.

As well as clean masks and clean skin, there are products that prevent the mask from coming in contact with your face all together. You can now purchase inner support frames, which is essentially a small, rounded frame you place on your face to keep the mask away from your mouth. Make sure to sanitize the frame between uses to prevent bacteria.

We hope these tips keep you and your skin happy and healthy. As always, we are here to help with any of your dermatology and cosmetic needs. Give us a call at (443) 593 - 3021 to make an appointment.
